Lore Spotlight #2: Xalyn

(orig. published Feb. 20, 2024)

Xalyn is the goddess who created catfolk, and the one our catfolk cleric Fable holds in the highest esteem. Fable draws her healing powers from the wellspring of Xalyn’s grace, and contacts her directly in moments of need. She is warm, kind, and serene.

Souls in the land of Lyrea are being syphoned away by a dark power, disrupting the natural cycle of death and rebirth. As our heroes unraveled this wicked plot, they discovered an Illusory Palace deep in the forest hosting a grand banquet of wayward souls. Fable was horrified to find among them Clara, her beloved princess from her distant homeland Eldoris! If she was here, it meant that dark force was growing ever more ambitious, pilfering souls from beyond its domain entirely!

Fable called out to Xalyn, who intervened directly against this affront. She was able to guide Princess Clara’s soul back home, to rest among her own land and gods.

Xalyn’s Grace is one of four “God Sorceries” in the set. Each boasts a powerful effect at a steep cost, but you can lower that cost by playing basic lands in their color – a bit of a twist on the Devotion mechanic in real MtG!

Also, Xalyn herself is a nod to the existing homebrew page on playable catfolk. I’m not sure who wrote the page, but our players took it and ran with it! It’s been fun incorporating her into the rest of our story.
