Cap’n Gator is a quintessential green common for this set, as it can hook into a number of archetypes at once. Its natural bulk makes it great to ramp into or equip onto, and the Crewmate tokens it creates on entering AND leaving is an attractive prospect for blink or sacrifice builds.

The Crewmate itself is also deceptively versatile! It’s blue, so it can help pay off “number of colors among permanents you control” cards for only green mana, and it’s an enchantment creature for cards that care about that. There are even a couple of rares in the set that care about Crewmates specifically!

Worst case, Cap’n Gator is a solid 4-drop that wants to stick around. 4/6 total worth of stats for 4 mana is nothing to scoff at, even if you don’t get it all at once!
